Harkapur Secondary School

After constructing new buildings for Irang Richok Basic School and Harkapur Basic School, the number of students at both schools increased. However, there was no high school (serving grades 6-10) in the area, so students from Irang, Harkapur, and Mohoriya villages had to travel to Malekhu or Benighat for higher grades. This was not practical for many students, as it required them to relocate and put an extra financial burden on their families. As a result of the lack of a local high school, many students have been forced to abandon their dreams of further study. This has been a significant problem for the communities in Irang, Harkapur, and Mohoriya villages, as access to education beyond the basic level has been limited.

The community now realize the need for a high school and requested for assistance to COYON and Hanuman Onlus to construct another building in between Irang, Harkapur, and Mohoriya villages to create a secondary school. We too believe that a high school in this area will help to address this issue and provide more students with the opportunity to continue their studies, so we happily accept this genuine request.

The community proposed a flat land on top of the mid-hill, a place called Godam, as the construction site for the new high school. This location is approximately equidistant from the basic schools in all three villages and was deemed to be the most suitable location for the new school. The construction was started in 2015 and new building was inaugurated on 24 May 2016.

The new high school is providing students in Irang, Harkapur, and Mohoriya villages with the opportunity to continue their education beyond the basic level. After the construction of the school building was completed, additional assistance was provided to construct toilets for the school. This was an important addition to the school facilities, as access to clean and sanitary restrooms is essential for the health and well-being of students and staff. The community is grateful for the support of COYON and Hanuman Onlus in helping to address this issue and provide more students with the chance to pursue their academic goals. Furthermore providing this important amenities we too believe this will help to improve the overall functioning of the school.
